Recorded Group Presentation – Use the Elements of Style to Critique Professional Writing

Exigency
Being able to identify stylistic problems in other people’s work-product is an important managerial competency. Presenting on the elements of style will help you better understand these stylistic principles.
Writing Prompt
In small teams, collaborate to create a cohesive group presentation. Select the strongest critiques from each team member’s individual slides. Your goal is to synthesize the best examples and analyses into one unified presentation that demonstrates both critical thinking and design consistency.
Group Presentation Requirements:
- List Team Members: Be sure to list all colleagues who participated in the production of the presentation.
- Select and Refine: Choose the most effective examples from your individual presentations. Consider revising these examples based on class feedback or team discussions to improve clarity and depth.
- Two Examples per Stylistic Convention: For each of the following stylistic conventions, include two distinct examples of text that violate the convention. Each example should be accompanied by a clear, concise critique explaining the violation:
- Consistency: Ensure that the presentation maintains a consistent design style, including fonts, colors, slide layouts, and citation formats. Aim for visual cohesion across the slides.
- Bibliographic Information: Include proper citations for all source materials, either in the notes section or directly on the slides.
- Collaboration: Demonstrate effective teamwork by balancing contributions from all members and ensuring that the final presentation reflects a collective effort.
By working collaboratively, you’ll not only refine your critiques but also gain experience in synthesizing ideas and creating polished, professional presentations.
