Photography, according to Merriam Webster, is “the art or process of producing images by the action of radiant energy and especially light on a sensitive surface (such as film or an optical sensor).”

For writers Photography (along with Charts, Figures, Graphs, Tables; Icons, Ideograms, Pictographs; ) can be used to show information rather to tell, often enabling the writer to achieve simplicity and succinctness. Thus, photography is a medium of expression, a form of semiotic system.
