What is a Symbolic System?

People compose using a variety of symbolic systems: written, alphabetical language; visual language; mathematical symbols; computer code;–and other symbolic systems.

A symbolic system refers to an organized collection of symbols and the rules for their use that people recognize and understand to carry certain meanings. It’s more about the structure and established conventions governing the use of symbols.

Examples of Symbolic Systems
