What is Drafting?
Drafting refers to the act of writing a preliminary version of a document — a sloppy first draft.
During drafting, writers
- play the believing game
- focus on freewriting: they write in short bursts of writing without stopping and without concern for grammatical correctness, structural, or stylistic concerns
- use heuristics to generate new ideas.
Drafting & the Writing Process
When composing, writers move back and forth between drafting new material, revising drafts, and other steps in the writing process.
